First impressions of Los Angeles and the thesis of imperial exhaustion
Jiang describes his initial days in LA: a beautiful city marred by visible homelessness, drug addiction, and a $17 avocado toast that felt like a symbol of distorted prices.
He argues America is suffering from “imperial exhaustion” — an empire in decline, overextended militarily and financially, whose ruling class has run out of ideas and relies on tricks and propaganda to maintain the illusion of control.
The contrast with his years teaching in Beijing sharpened his view: from the Chinese perspective the US looks dominant, but from inside the US the rot is obvious.
Historical arc: from Bretton Woods to the present crisis
1944 Bretton Woods conference established the dollar as world reserve currency backed by gold; America lent reconstruction money to a devastated world so it could buy US manufactured goods.

Sanctions on Russia (freezing $300B in reserves, SWIFT expulsion) backfired: they destroyed trust in the Western financial system, accelerating a global shift from US Treasuries to gold.
The US is now losing a war in Iran (launched to reassert credibility), revealing a corrupt, bureaucratic, overstretched military.
A domino effect is underway: the yen is collapsing, threatening the liquidity from Japan and the Middle East that buys US Treasuries and props up the AI bubble, private credit bubble, and the entire US financial structure.

Three structural drivers of imperial decline
Financialization (per Piketty): capital increasingly flows to speculation (5% returns) rather than real wealth creation (2% returns), so entrepreneurs become rentiers.
Bureaucratization: institutions (especially universities) grow parasitic administrative layers that justify their existence by manufacturing problems (DEI, speech codes) and make genuine teaching nearly impossible.
Elite overproduction: a civil war between the Wall Street financial elite (dominant since Clinton/Obama) and Silicon Valley tech oligarchs (now seeking state subsidies for AI/data centers via Trump) paralyzes governance.
The occult/accelerationist layer
Jiang posits that secret societies, drawing on esoteric historical knowledge, cannot change history’s course but can accelerate collapse to time it for maximum profit.
He cites the Foundation series (Asimov) as a text tech oligarchs (Thiel, Musk) obsess over: they see technology (AI, Mars) as a potential loophole to skip the “dark ages” of imperial collapse and launch the next civilization.
The current chaos (Trump compressing a decade of change into months) reads as coordinated acceleration toward a new order — possibly centered in Israel, Argentina, or China.
Spiritual framework: the internal war and the nature of the self
The critical war is internal: between materiality and spirituality. All major traditions teach that consciousness is a fractal of the universe; what happens inside us ripples outward.
Jiang reads the Iliad as illustrating this: Priam’s forgiveness of Achilles changes the universe’s record; the universe “records” every act and implants it into collective imagination (Homer).
Kant’s categorical imperative: act as if your action becomes universal law. Choose the world you want and be it.
We are not mere bodies (“husks”) but divine spiritual beings connected to the Monad/God. Anxiety comes from forgetting this and identifying only with the mortal shell.
The highest human experience, per Homer’s Odyssey, is family — loving and being loved, raising children — not fame or glory.
Reclaiming this heritage transforms the meaning of the coming collapse: a fully conscious humanity could build a world far more magnificent than the current one.
Christianity vs. progressive secularism; organized religion vs. free spirituality
The professional-managerial class (PMC) embodies Enlightenment meritocracy: cosmopolitan, competent, yet deeply unhappy because it denies the spiritual nature of man.
A religious backlash is coming, but organized religion carries its own pathologies (medieval Catholic Church). The real struggle ahead is between organized religion and free spirituality.
Free spirituality wins by deep practice that attracts others (like attracts like in a consciousness-first universe) and transforms the practitioner into a conduit for others.
Jiang’s personal spiritual journey
A product of the meritocracy (Yale), he long denied God and was deeply depressed. Reclaiming spirituality — defining God as the Monad (universe, being and becoming, nothing and everything) — resolved the unhappiness.
He now sees himself as a “messenger for the Monad” given his improbable reach and the audience gathered.
He rejects the Bible as a plagiarized, politicized text; does not accept a literal demiurge or Satan; sees evil as imagined, the universe as all-forgiving love, and human agency as creative imagination.
Memory palace and the structure of knowledge
Jiang retains vast historical detail by building narrative structures (“memory palaces”) first, then hanging facts on them — the opposite of academic fact-memorization, which he calls useless.
Soul, spirit, and mind in the Odyssey
Consciousness exists across infinite dimensions. Soul ≈ astral body; spirit = connection to the universe; mind = intellect. Depression/paralysis comes when they misalign; wholeness comes from focusing on love and purpose.
The Yale/MK Ultra critique and advice to an incoming student
Elite universities are “MK Ultra systems”: high-pressure trauma environments that implant “achievement at all costs” ideology, filtering out curiosity and rebellion.
Obama exemplifies the failure: a transformative movement that appointed the very architects of the crisis (Summers, Geithner, Rubin) because his programming could not conceive of a world not run by Ivy Leaguers.
Jiang’s advice: the moment you accept admission you’re trapped. He would still have gone knowing the cost (10–20 years of unwinding), but he will not send his own children to school at all — he wants them free, connected to the divine.
School is indoctrination, not education; it drugs non-compliant children (Ritalin) and produces a shallow, vacuous ruling class.
Why a return to the gold standard is impossible
The Eurodollar system (dollars outside US jurisdiction) is opaque in size and riddled with counterfeit dollars. You cannot re-peg to gold without knowing the true money supply.
The only “solution” the elite have planned is burning down the US economy (Great Depression-style) to destroy the illusion of dollar value and force people to beg for work/war.
Money is a mechanism for energy extraction: elites issue currency to claim others’ labor; the system persists only while belief in the money’s value holds. $17 toast and $220B SpaceX valuations signal that belief has evaporated.
Iran war, midterms, and “chaos magic”
The November midterms are theater; Democrats may take the House but won’t stop the war. Congress avoids authorizing war to avoid being on the record (cf. 2003 Iraq vote).
Ground invasion (special forces already inserted) likely after midterms. The war is a “dumpster fire” — Trump’s weekly flip-flops (bomb Iran / we’re friends) are “chaos magic”: distracting a public that has blocked out the most consequential war of our lifetimes.
No street protests, no Democratic opposition. The population is not processing it.
Middle East realignment: Turkey–Saudi–Pakistan pact and Pax Judaea
The new Turkey–Saudi–Pakistan mutual defense treaty fits the Pentagon’s “balance of power” strategy: US retreats from Pax Americana, creates regional balances (NATO vs Russia, Japan vs China, GCC+Israel vs Iran).
Short-term: a multinational coalition against the Houthis (Saudi can’t defend alone). Turkey–Israel tension is theater — Turkey supplies Israel’s oil.
Long-term: transition from Pax Americana to Pax Judaea (Israeli regional hegemony).
The GCC was a petrodollar creation; the US should have propped up Iraq as a counterweight to Iran but instead invaded Iraq (2003) per the Clean Break Memo (1996) — authored by Perle, Feith, Wolfowitz for Netanyahu — calling for regime change in Iraq and Syria to make Israel the regional hegemon.

The meritocracy is the secret society: Yale/Harvard confer zero consequences for bad behavior (Jiang’s story of working three jobs, blowing off a projector duty, getting a presidential complaint, and simply being fired with no further penalty). This impunity scales to Wall Street and DC.
